Who was Elizabeth?

In this lesson before we proceed any further we will consider who Elizabeth was. A favourite with film producers her reign has been described as a Golden Age but what were the origins of the woman who would become one of the most reverred English monarchs of all time. This lesson will consider her background and how this shaped her character and personality.



Watch the first clip from the film the Virgin Queen. Write a paragraph in the comments section on this post explaining the key issues that are highlighted in this extract of the film. This is due by Friday 25th January 2008

Requirements of the Course

This course will consider the following key issues:

How far did the nature and role of parliament change?
How effective was the government of Elizabethan England?
How far, and why, did the popularity and effectiveness of ELizabeth I's government decline after 1588?
How successful was Elizabeth I in maintaining the power and prestigue of the monarchy?

The exam lasts 45 minutes during which time you will have to write ONE essay from a a choice of ONLY TWO questions!
